Sparrow's Hope Vision

Sparrow’s Hope is an effort to address the issue of human trafficking. We run; that’s what we do! I thought why not use running as a unique niche to help draw attention to this epidemic around the world. Our vision is to contribute helping fight this scourge in both Central Ohio and internationally, specifically in India (the number 1 purveyor of sexual trafficking in the world). In 2017 our team ran 30 miles a day for 34 days to cover 1000 miles (2 Million Steps To Hope). In 2018 our team ran and biked 500 miles (1 Million Steps To Hope). In January of 2019 our team will run and bike 1000 miles from Chennai to Kolkata/Calcutta (2 Million Steps To Hope). Our mission is to educate thousands of Indian school children in school assemblies held each morning about the dangers of human trafficking that has run amuck in India.

In addition, this September, Sparrow’s Hope pulled off our first 5K to draw awareness of trafficking in Central Ohio. Further, every other Saturday night, we shine our lights in inner city neighborhoods in Columbus, running/walking as we distribute purses filled with feminine hygiene items, hugs, prayer support and information about options available to escape the cycle of prostitution and trafficking. These running efforts are meant to promote education and help facilitate preventative and after care programs in India and Central Ohio (the State of Ohio is ranked #4 in human trafficking incidents in the United States). One goal is to see a home be built in Bangalaru, India, so as to facilitate aftercare for women rescued out of human trafficking. The Home will be called Sparrow’s Hope House. In addition, Sparrow’s Hope believes a special shelter needs to be built (specifically for trafficked women in crisis) in Central Ohio because of the overcrowding of the current shelter systems.

  • In 2017 our team traveled 1000 miles from Mumbai to Chennai as we ran the distance in 34 days speaking at schools and universities about the issue of human trafficking. In 2018 our team ran and biked 500 miles from Chennai to Kovalam in 15 days speaking to thousands of students. We thank the Rotary Clubs of India for taking an interest in this issue and sponsoring our dinners and lodging. We thank Indian local and state police for escorting us and many newspapers and local news stations for covering our efforts to draw awareness of human slavery. In January/February 2019 we hope to cover 750 miles running/biking from Guntur to Kolkata.
